The Heartbreak
A student has revealed her heartbreak after she was stood up by a date who dubbed her prosthetic leg a "turn off", leaving her crying alone in a park.
Devon Taverner-Hailou was excited to meet up with the man she had been talking to over a dating app, but he quickly ditched the journalism and business student, blaming her prosthesis.

Re: The Heartbreak
While Devon, 20, thought the date was going well as they walked through a park, he told her: "You're so beautiful, it's such a shame about [your leg]."
He then excused himself to go to the toilet but never returned, leaving Devon stranded and totally lost on how to get herself home.
Appearing on BBC Three show 21 Again, where mums are transformed to look and act their daughters age, Devon revealed: "He sent me a message saying 'Your leg it too weird'.
"He said 'it's a turn off' and 'don't ever contact me again'. I just started crying - I was traumatised."

Re: The Heartbreak
When she asked the date to return at least to help her find her way home, he told Devon he wanted "nothing to do with her" before blocking her.
But it wasn't the first time the 20-year-old, who has Proximal Focal Femoral Deficiency (PFFD) that saw her born without a thigh bone has had to deal with a horror date.
She told the Mirror: "Another date knew about my prosthetic leg but when he saw the way I walked, he told me to get out of his car.
"Every time I dated it was always the exact same story, and in the end it got too much and I refused to meet people - I became depressed."

Re: The Heartbreak
She added that socialising has proved a struggle too, as bullying and abuse left her suffering with anxiety, and constantly worrying about her leg and the way she walks.
Devon explained of her condition: "The lower part of my left leg is attached to my hip, so it means the left is small and I have to wear a prosthetic. I'm quite self conscious about it."
But after appearing on the hit show alongside mum Joanna, who she lives with alongside stepdad Fivos and sister Drew, 7, in Epping, Essex, she says she has a newfound confidence.
Joanna, 41, a dancer, has also noticed the change in her daughter, and told the Mirror: "The show made her realise there are people out there who accept her."

Re: The Heartbreak
In the programme, mum Joanna took Devon to meet make-up artist Yasmin Senior, who also suffers from PFFD - something which hugely boosted the young woman's confidence.
She described the moment as like meeting a "long lost sister", and the pair discussed the importance of acceptance, as well surgical options to improve Devon's quality of life.
Yasmin also encouraged the student to continue to "come out" online about her prosthetic, as Devon has recently started posting pictures of her leg.
She concluded: "I feel much happier now. My attitude has changed. Now I think people can just take me as I am."
Devon is currently fundraising in order to travel to America to see a specialist doctor for her condition, who might be able to help get her a new prosthesis.

Re: The Heartbreak
If I understand correctly, she's missing her entire left thigh (femur) and has the lower part of her leg - presumably including ankle and foot - extending from her hip joint. I wonder how the leg articulates at the hip? Even as a dev I'd find that a little odd, but I could never be as cold, callous and heartless as the two guys mentioned. Some people are so shallow!

Re: The Heartbreak
I have seen photos of a Russian lady from a few years back with from the description the same issue. It does look strange to basically see a shin/calf and foot coming out of the hip. I will try and find it again and post it. As for the idiots who upset her they need an education.Taffdev wrote: ↑07 Jun 2019, 13:04If I understand correctly, she's missing her entire left thigh (femur) and has the lower part of her leg - presumably including ankle and foot - extending from her hip joint.
