Denique Peace
The 15-year-old did not have a scratch or bruise on her, but her left leg was
completely severed in the December 12 accident.
Denique Peace, 15, had her leg amputated above the knee after a boat accident in Yarrawonga.
Denique was flown from Bungalong to the Royal Children’s Hospital, where surgeons initially tried to reattach her leg before it became infected.
After 10 surgeries and five weeks in hospital, Denique will return home to Boosey, near Yarrawonga, tomorrow, keen to get back into normal life.
She will soon swap her walking frame and crutches for a prosthetic leg.
RCH orthopedic surgeon Ian Torode said it was the third boating accident
treated at the hospital this summer.
Denique is being spurred on with stories of other
patients who have
achieved incredible feats after losing limbs.
“I don’t think my life is over, that I’m not going to be able to do things,” she said.
“I’m very keen to try as many things as I can to get better. That’s my goal at the moment.”
